Taylor Wisnieski Homework #3

As i was reading part of chapter 3 in Everything's a Text and one of the paragraphs that really stuck out to me was, Personal Experiences Shape our Literacies. I completely agree with what this paragraph has to say because it all depends on what experiences you've had that made you the type of literate individual you are today (Bishop 53). As I look back on my experiences with writing I know I could have written better papers and tried a little harder to make them sound grammatically correct and interesting but when you're a kid all you want to do is just get through your homework and not worry about the way it's going to sound to others who read it. Now that I'm aware of the mistakes I've made in the past while writing papers I believe I will be able to produce well written papers.

Another paragraph that I came across and caught my eye was when they talk about writing about our own lives. I think this is such a good thing to do because it allows you to build confidence as a writer and for you to explore what you really think and feel about the world around you (Soliday 23). I always enjoy writing about myself or things I know of well just like most people would, it always makes writing a lot easier. Sometimes my life experiences are very close to what I am required to write about which also helps me write a better paper if I can relate to the situation.

  1. I like personal writing, too. I think it has so much more feeling because it's not what is required of you but rather just what you're thinking. I love it when papers for school happen to relate to a personal experience, it makes it so much more interesting and much easier!

  2. I agree--papers are always better when you can relate to them...and actually care what you're writing about. :)
And writing about things in your life helps you to "explore what you really think and feel about the world around you" as well as what you think of yourself.

  3. I agree that writing helps build confidence. A lot of my papers that I have to write deal with personal experiences to, so I can relate to you.

  4. I agree that writing about our own lives is a good thing to do. It makes writing and reading so much more interesting and not as boring. Also, more people can connect to what you write if you make it more personal.

  5. I also agree with everyone i would rather write a personal paper then a paper that is getting graded. The writing is much more interesting and it helps me express what is on my mind.

  6. I noticed the personal background as well. Everyone writes from personal experiences and I totally agree with that.

  7. I never really have done any personal writings except for my English classes but honestly, every time I have I did enjoy it. It brought back a lot of memories and made me feel nice and happy. :)
